Capturing Christmas and a little FRENCH...

Have been enjoying getting to know my new Camera...Canon Powershot SX20 IS. It was a gift.
So far...I think we'll get along just fine.
Christmas ...My father used this photo to paint the origional...eons ago.
You may remember it hanging in my guest room.
I have always loved it...after my father passed my mom gave it to me.
Some things just speak to you...

My sisters and I lived on a canal when we were kids and spent many winter evenings ice skating with the neighbors...wonderful memories.

Christmas whiteness...

I've decided to attempt a Little French....just because I can...and finding it fascinating.
I took a year of it in High School...I wish I would have paid more attention.

I wonder how far Ooh-la-la will get me?
Have a sweet one,
xoxo~Kathy.

  1. Since we're also aged and in the twilight of our years, I've thought of you and your loss a LOT lately and each time I do I just can't stop weeping for what we know will come. I truly hope you are doing well or at least, the best you can, sugar. My thoughts are with you frequently.
    xoxo,

  7. Kathy you have been in my thoughts and prayers. I know that this is a difficult time for you and your family as you start life without your soulmate of forty years. Your photos are stunning - but they always have been. I have a Canon PowerShot and just love it. Have fun re-learning French...I love that language. I took it in high school and college - my mother's father's family was French (I think by way of Canadian). Thanks for sharing your memories of Christmas. May you find peace and happiness with your family during this holiday season.

  8. Hi Kathy,
Your photos are so beautiful as is all of your lovely decorations.

For some reason your blog wasn't showing up on my blog roll and I have missed several of your posts.
I was so excited to see this one come up and hurried over to see you.

I started reading your previous posts and I am so sorry about your precious Dave. What a beautiful tribute to such a wonderful man, husband, father and grandfather. God Bless you my dear friend and may you always have sweet memories and peace in your heart.

  9. Kathy, Your photos look so ethereal and beautiful. How wonderful to have the photo that inspired the original painting he did. I wish I had my original skates. I kept them so nice and clean- they were so special to me. We used to go into a canyon about five miles from town to skate on the dam. It got cold because the mountain blocked all the sun. brrr..... My bones can feel it still! LOL
Please know that you are in my thoughts, my friend. Hugs, Sue

  14. Good luck on the French. I took Spanish, French, and German in high school...and ended up teaching Spanish in high school myself. I loved the pictures and the narrations that went with each. Have a lovely day. Joyeux Noel...or as we say in Spanish...Feliz Navidad.

  15. We didn't listen because that's what kids do! Good luck on that. Your face looks so thin. I imagine you don't feel like eating much. However your face had a relaxed look that I didn't expect, and feel better to have witnessed. As though you're holding your own. Peace be with you, my friend. Know you're in my pocket.

  16. Hello dear one. Thinking of you so much lately and hoping you know how much love and support we are all sending you.

I took French for 4 years in high school and I often think of brushing up my skills - or lack thereof.

I have the same camera you do. Well, its the SX10IS - because it's 2 years old. But I love, love, love it! It has been such a great camera - and the photo quality is great.

  17. Hi Kathy- I thought I had responded earlier...they say the mind is the first thing to go...;>) Anyway, this is a sweet and softly beautiful post. I can't believe your Dad painted that picture. He was quite talented, wasn't he? What a wonderful reminder of him. I have an old picture that my father had when he set up housekeeping and it reminds me of him, too.

Good luck with your French. I have always wanted to speak French. I wanted so badly to take it in high school but I was on the "business track" and they wouldn't let me work it into my schedule. I have always regretted that.

Just make sure you don't say Ooh-la-la when you are walking the streets of wintery Michigan...people might look at you a bit strangely~

Thinking of you and the many changes in your life this Season...Hugs my sweet MI friend- Diana

  21. Congratulations on the new camera. I don't know what your old one was, but the new one looks sweet! Your fathers painting is gorgeous, what a treasure. He was very talented. As for the French, I have never been good at languages, i admire you for going for it, I think my brain would just hurt if I tried to learn a language now. You go girl!
