  1. Hi Kathy,
How beautiful your blog is! I just discovered it via Serendipity. When I saw the phrase "up north" within your comment there I knew you must be a fellow Michigander (I live in Berkley, a little suburban city north of Detroit). Your photos are just stunning and your creations are lovely and inspiring. I look forward to visiting again very soon.

  8. Hi Kathy,
Yea, I would say you got SNOW!!! One of the positives (or negatives) of living in Michigan. It looks beautiful. I just baked my sugar cookies today and will frost them tomorrow. I haven't seen snowflakes sprinkles - those are cute! My sugar cookies have to have lots of frosting cause that's the way my hubby and his family like them. I shown photos of my baking last year on my blog. Cute posting!

  10. Hi Kathy,
Oh, we used to go to Shipshewana all the time when we lived in Chicago. We would meet my hubby's family (coming from Cleveland) for camping in lower Michigan and the girls would go shopping at Shipshewana and then out to dinner. Fun, fun, fun.... I'll have to check out this website - thanks for the tip. It may be too late for my cookies this year but not for next year.

  14. Hi Kathy!

Gledelig Jul! I haven't made my Julekake yet (just bought the yeast yesterday!) but my Sylte Flesk is brining, and today the Kalve Sosse (sp?) will be made.

I have not made the Norwegian foods for a few years; I found it too sad without having my mother to be able to share in it -- she is now in end-stage Alzheimer's but it has been a very long goodbye. But this year I decided to celebrate by honoring her Christmas traditions focusing on what a wonderful life she has had.

I think watching my whole family get gloomy over Mom's situation spurred me to sort of pull my own socks up, and say, "OK, we cannot change what is happening, but we can change how we are handling it," and gave me the impetus to celebrate this holiday as my Mom would want us to, and celebrate the Saviour's birth.

Have a blessed Christmas... sorry to ramble on!

  16. Kathy,
I am enjoying all of your photographs of the snow. I live near Port Huron (about an hour north of Detroit) and we haven't had much snow yet.
We have a shared (husband's family) cabin "up north". I love going there in the winter...
